Candlelight vigil held for slain 13-year-old girl


Probable murder suspect arrested in Sharon, PA

ASHTABULA_A vigil was held 7 p.m. Friday for slain 13-year-old Kara Zdanczewski outside of St. Joseph Catholic Church on 3312 Lake Ave. in Ashtabula. Neighbors, fellow students, lunch mates and concerned community members gathered at the steps to the church to honor the Lakeside Jr. High School student.
“Kara was nice; she was beautiful,” friend Ali Starcher said. “She was just an amazing and caring person.”
Ashtabula Police received a report from Zdanczewski family members Thursday morning, May 11, that Kara was missing and was last seen with John Bove, of Ashtabula.
Ashtabula Police found Bove’s vehicle near a wooded are near the 3200 block of Ashtabula – Austinburg Road in Saybrook Township. The body of a young teenage girl was found during an extensive search by the Ashtabula Police, Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Saybrook Fire Department and the Ashtabula City Fire Department.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office processed the crime scene. Positive identification of the victim is pending.
Suspect John Bove was arrested by the Sharon Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police in Sharon, Pa., following a tip from a female acquaintance of Bove’s. The Major Crimes Unit of the PA. State Police also executed several search warrants in their jurisdiction.
Bove will remain in the custody of Pennsylvania until he is extradited to Ohio to face a multitude of charges.
