JEFFERSON_Donald M. McCormack, 51, of Jefferson, was arraigned before Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald Vettel Tuesday, Dec. 30,. The former Jefferson Area High School varsity softball coach, girls Junior Varsity basketball coach, assistant girls varsity basketball coach and former Star Beacon newspaper sports editor, plead not guilty to seven additional charges alleging improper sexual activity with high school girls he coached. Four victims have come forward with allegations against McCormack.
He appeared in court with Cleveland attorney John Fatica. Five of the charges are felonies, the other two misdemeanors. A large group of former players and their families attended the brief hearing.
Indictment filed charging Donald Michael McCormack with one count endangering children, a third degree felony, three counts of sexual battery, all third degree felonies, one count gross sexual imposition, a fourth degree felony, and two counts of sexual imposition, both third degree misdemeanors.
Former Jefferson Area High School Varsity girls basketball coach Rodney Holmes faces misdemeanor charges for failing to report incidents involving McCormack’s alleged behavior. Holmes taught a math class at the Jefferson school.Like
