Man struck by vehicle in Erie, Pa., succumbs to injuries

ERIE, PA_A man who sustained head injuries after being struck by a vehicle near 2910 South State St. about 10:15 a.m. Friday, July 21 died at UPMC Hamot later that day. George V. Wiser, 66, of Girard, Pa., was reportedly standing on South State Street when he was struck by a vehicle backing up on the street.

Erie Fire, Erie Police and EmergyCare responded to the scene after receiving a report of a pedestrian / vehicle accident at 10:19 a.m. EmergyCare transported Wiser to the hospital.
Wiser was a member of the Holy Cross Church. He volunteered at the Pleasant Ridge Manor and Soup Kitchen.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard, on 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26 at the Holy Cross Church, 7100 W. Ridge Rd., Fairview. Internment will at the Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
