Two die in fiery crash in Ashtabula County


Route 6/7 closed for hours at Richmond Township and Pierpont Township line.

RICHMOND TOWNSHIP_A fiery crash claimed the lives of two people Thursday at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 7 at the Pierpont Township – Richmond Township line.

A semi tractor-trailer traveling south on Route 7 and a pickup truck traveling west on Route 6 collided at the intersection. The pickup driver and the driver of the semi were pronounced dead at the scence Ashtabula County Coroner’s Chief Investigator Rich Mongell said.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. The OHP says Clifford Miller, 46, of Wellsville, was driving a GMC Sierra that failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled into the path of the tractor-trailer. The semi-truck driver was William Rounds, 61, of Waterville, NY.

Initial statement made by an Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper at the scene said that three people were killed. Further investigation showed that two people died in the accident.
