Former Ashtabula City Housing inspector faces felony theft charges


Artuso charged with theft in office and grand theft

JEFFERSON_On May 22, 2018, the Ashtabula County Grand Jury indicted John F. Artuso, a former a housing inspector with the City of Ashtabula, on the following felony charges:

  1. Theft in Office, a third degree felony
  2. Grand Theft, a fourth degree felony

The charges stem from the theft of money from a vacant residence located at 4306 West Avenue in Ashtabula on or about December 1, 2017. It is alleged that Artuso, during his tenure as housing inspector, removed a significant sum of money from the residence and allowed others to take and/or receive money and other property therefrom while he was working as housing inspector and preparing the property for a potential demolition. The indictment alleges that the amount of money stolen is in excess of $7,500 but less than $150,000.

I would like to express our appreciation to the Ashtabula Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their work in handling the investigation of this case.

As of the date of this press release, no arraignment date has been scheduled.  A summons has been issued for Mr. Artuso to appear at the arraignment hearing.
