Jefferson Falcons softball defeats Lake Catholic

JEFFERSON_ Falcons’ catcher Ariann Barile hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning Thursday to put Jefferson up 4-0 against Lake Catholic at the JAGS Complex in Jefferson. The Falcons scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead in the Division II sectional title game.

    Lake Catholic pushed a run across in their half of the sixth inning before the Falcons closed the door and ended the Cougars’ playoff season. The Falcons’ record stands at (20-4). It has been 21 years since Jefferson won an outright league championship and sectional title game in the same year. Jefferson last accomplished the feat in 1992.

Freshman pitcher Alyssa Irons allowed just two singles and a triple in her complete game win. She also helped her cause with a pair of doubles.

    Sarah Busch hit a single and scored in the third inning and Kaycee Fusco hit a double and scored in the fourth inning. Bailey Beckwith had two hits.

The youthful Falcons face the Geneva Eagles in a District II semifinal game Wednesday, May 22 at the JAGS Complex. Geneva defeated Jefferson 3-2 in an earlier match up.
